Emotional intelligence (EI) is the ability of your mind to understand, manage, express and regulate emotions effectively. Therefore it is important that you apply them in all areas of your life.

Moreover, having a good emotional intelligence means you maintain good interpersonal relationships, you have the ability to control desires,  you are being thoughtful, sensitive and tolerant.

Today I will show you how you can improve your emotional intelligence.

Develop your emotional intelligence in 5 steps

1. Create a mindset of self-awareness

A key component to develop emotional intelligence is the ability to recognize and understand your own character, mood and emotions. And for this you must:

i. Learn to look at yourself objectively. Therefore, knowing your strengths and weaknesses.

ii. Keep a diary to know precisely how you feel and analyze trends.

iii. Understand what you like and motivate yourself to develop your projects.

iv. Take things easy. Therefore give yourself a break at due times and provide an opening for you that allow you to slow down your emotions and thoughts.

2. Develop emotional intelligence through motivation

The drive to improve and achieve goals is an important factor in developing your emotional intelligence. Because it allows you to be willing to face opportunities and life situations.

Therefore, to achieve this; you need to follow these steps:

i. Create your goals: Picture where you want to be in a few years, then define what you like and how you can get there.

Consequently it will help you get an energetic and positive attitude about yourself.

ii. Keep it real: Support yourself in your new goals and understand how you will reach them step by step.

Subsequently, when you reach your goals you will have confidence in yourself to go further.

iii. Think positive and stay motivated in every situation. Therefore, See problems and setbacks as learning opportunities.

3. Be a more empathetic person

Empathy is the ability to understand the emotions of others and also to be aware  that everyone has feelings, fears, desires, goals and problems.

Moreover, to be empathetic, you must allow their experiences to blend with yours and respond in an emotionally appropriate way.

Therefore, generating empathy with the people around you will help you develop your emotional intelligence. And to achieve this you need to follow these steps:

i. Listen and understand what the other is saying. Therefore, putting aside your prejudices, skepticism and other problems.

ii. Create an approachable attitude and attract others with a good personality.

iii. Put yourself in the other’s shoes and get a little perspective on what others may feel and think from their experience.

iv. Open up to other people. Therefore Listening and connecting with the people around you.

4. Develop social skills

Social skills are necessary for the development of emotional intelligence, because they help us to interact with other people’s emotions effectively. And in order to develop your social skill, you have to:

i. Observe someone with good social skills and define something that you would particularly like to improve and learn from them.

ii. Practice, relate and improve aspects that you find that you must change.

5. Learn to self-manage

By being self-aware, you can self-manage and take responsibility for your own behavior and well-being, as well as controlling explosive and impulsive emotions, therefore allowing you to develop emotional intelligence appropriately.

Step to self manage are:

ii. Change your routine-  Managing your emotions and improving your emotional intelligence will also depend on how you keep your mind occupied in an activity or hobby.

ii Create a schedule and stick to it, so you can push yourself to achieve small goals and objectives.

iii. Eat well and improve your emotional state through good nutrition and quality of life.

iv. Channel your negative energy into activities that require your attention and let out overwhelming emotions.

Developing emotional intelligence requires attention and commitment to improve crucial skills that help you understand yourself and others.  Moreover, remember that EI is the sum of balance, expression and rational thinking. Therefore, building it will depend on continuous and progressive actions that strengthen your habits and social relationships,
