4 Ultimate Ways To Control Your Emotions

February 18, 2021Ayobiojo Mayowa

Everyone experiences different situations, if probably not, different kinds of emotions in life. Emotions determine our mood; even the decision and activities we make are according to the feelings we faced at the moment.  Whether the emotions are negative or positive, if they are left unchecked, they can cause severe destruction not only to us but also to other people.

“Your emotions are the slaves to your thoughts, and you are the slave to your emotions.”

Emotions are part of our everyday life. They guide us, restrain us, and, best of all, connect us with other people. They can impact our minds and relations if they’re not regulated well.

If you often become furious, lose control of your mind, and react angrily to the situation you later regretted, you’re emotionally unstable. Instead of allowing emotions to rule over your mind, you need to learn how to control them over time. Here are the five ultimate ways to control your emotions

Identify the actual emotion:

Without determining the cause of the problem, we often react furiously as soon as the feeling appears. This is a huge mistake that we tend to make and later regretted in life.

To regret those complications, we need to identify the cause of the problem before reacting to it. Calm your nerves when things get frustrating and think about the origin of the problem that causes it.

When you identify the cause of the negative emotion, you will accept them and become more aware whenever you face it next time.

Be Aware of Emotional Triggers:

To cope with negative emotions, you need to be aware of the things that trigger your feelings. For instance, you may find yourself outraged when a friend laughs at you and when your wife yells at your kids.

Becoming aware of the feeling that causes you to become anger will help you work through them efficiently. Talking about the situation with others can help you solve the crisis wisely instead of getting outraged and frustrated.

Take Time Away:

Sometimes, other people’s actions left you hurt and facing the emotions such as stress, anger, and anxiety. To prevent strong feelings from affecting your social life, you need to take most of your time away from the people that cause destructive emotions.

Stay calm and relaxed when someone tries to overwhelm you. To reduce anger and stress, you can also involve yourself in physical activities such as exercise, meditation, and yoga.

Create Your Mantra:

When found yourself in an overwhelming condition, a mantra will help you be more knowledgeable about emotions without allowing them to rule your mind and body.  It’s always a good practice to take your time alone for meditation, but sometimes you forget to do this when intense emotions control your mind.

At that moment, to get back yourself in the condition of stability, a mantra will do a job for you. To reduce stress and anger, you can repeat these mantra lines like “I will never allow my feelings to rule my mind” or “ I am the best no one can trigger myself.” You can also create a mantra for yourself that better suits you to control your emotions.
