Before we look at the steps in building self confidence, I would like us to first understand what self confidence is. Self confidence means believing in yourself that you carry out a particular task. Some people are self confident and exhibit an higher degree of confidence while some people are timid. However, Self-confidence has a lot to do with background. For instance, a person who grew up in a background where his or her opinion matter and is usually encourage is most likely to have a high level of confidence. However, someone who grew up in a background where they are usually shut up or boxed to a corner will most likely be withdrawn to themselves and might be scared to air their opinion.
People who are self-confident are usually bold and are risk takers . This is to say, they are not scared to make mistakes and be corrected or bothered about what people will say. They always give things a try; they daring. However, people who lack self-confidence usually feel inadequate, and they sometimes feel they are not good enough for the society. Nobody is born with self-confidence. It is rather achieved.

1.) Acknowledge Your Imperfections
You need come to terms with the fact that no one is perfect. We all have our imperfections. Thus you must be prepared to make mistakes and be corrected or criticized. You must be ready to unlearn some characteristics and learn new habits.
2.) Embrace Criticism
To build your self confidence, you must be prepared to accept criticism. Whenever you are criticized examine why you are being criticized and work on it. But if you discover that what you are being criticized for is unreal, dismiss the criticism and ignore.
3.) Celebrate Your Achievements
List your achievements so far like getting the job, gaining admission, starting up your business etc. And encourage yourself. Tell yourself that if you could achieve these, you could do more. Let these achievements motivate you whenever you are feeling inadequate. Take the list and encourage yourself that you can do better.
4.) Identify Your Strength And Weakness
To attain self-confidence you need to identify your strength i.e what you are good at and your weakness i.e. what you are limited or incapacitated to do. For instance if you are the type who has a problem with making eye contact while speaking, try to face a mirror and speak to yourself for some minutes and make sure you make an eye contact with your image in the mirror.
5.) Be Optimistic
Always say good things to yourself. Avoid being negative and always stay positive as it goes a long way. Positive affirmation boosts your courage and makes you want to challenge any situation that confronts you.
