What is Daily Habits?

Daily habits are rituals and behaviors that we perform automatically on a daily basis, allowing us to carry out essential activities such as brushing our teeth, taking a shower, getting dressed for work, and following the same routes every day without thinking about them

You probably have heard the words ‘health is wealth’ a thousand times. As true as this statement is, health is not just wealth. Health is life.

Regardless of what you’ve heard before, the effects of your daily habits or lifestyles in general go a long way in determining your lifespan.

Inarguably, God is the only giver and the taker of life. Nevertheless, that doesn’t erase the fact that you’ve got a big role to play in maintaining it.

The good news however is, It’s never too late to start living healthy Lifestyle. Here, in this article, you will discover some daily habits you might want to consider ditching if you desire longevity.

Avoid Sitting Still In The Same Spot For A Long Time

In this era of technology where people hardly need to step outside to get anything done as long as the internet can be accessed, it’s no wonder how easily we get caught up for hours sitting in a single place. But as much as we love the ease that comes with this, our body doesn’t.

So, what’s the remedy? Spare at least 30 minutes each day to take a walk, perform yoga or go for a jog. One study found that “15 minutes of moderate exercise each day can help live three extra years”.

The truth is, you don’t need a lot of equipment or a gym or turn to an overnight athlete before you exercise. As long as you keep the body moving and the heart racing, you’re good.

Say No To Processed Foods

Not only are these injurious to your mental well-being, they are terrible for your physical appearance. Processed foods also referred to as junks (fried foods, cakes, deserts, e.t.c) remain the number one cause of obesity. They also contribute immensely to cardiac diseases due to high intake of sodium and potassium.

As much as it may be difficult to totally do away with processed foods, you can begin to limit your intake by gradually replacing them with vegetables, fruits and other foods rich in fiber.
Do this and watch your body and mind thank you for it. Soon, this healthy will become part of your daily habits.

Free Your Mind From Grudges And Anger

Getting angry is normal and not so harmful, but staying angry is detrimental to your health. Not to the person you’re angry at but to you. What an irony, right? Likewise, when you hold grudges the only person who gets to live a bitter life is you. Not the person you hold it against.

In case you’re still wondering how this affects your longevity, research has shown that the level of ‘a not so friendly’ hormone known as cortisol increases when you’re angry. High level of this hormone has been attributed as one of the causes of mortality in individuals.

In other words, you’d be causing more damages to your mental health when you refuse to let certain, though hurtful events go. So do yourself a favor, let go of anger and grudges from your daily habits – your mind deserves peace.

Avoid Appointing Blame And Take Responsibility Instead

I am yet to see a person who blames others for their circumstances and succeeds. Neither have I seen someone who takes responsibility for their life and yet fails.

When you blame the third party for your failures and predicaments, you simply give them the power to keep controlling your life in negative ways.

But when you take full charge and begin to work your way through the challenges even if you feel justified in your accusations, better things start to happen, doors begin to open, things begin to fall in place, and life begins to make much more sense.

Avoid Dehydration

Drinking enough water, or staying hydrated, is the first rule of health and nutrition. Water helps to ‘keep things moving’ in the digestive system, and so staying hydrated can help prevent constipation in children, adults and the elderly. Likewise, poor hydration may increase the risk of developing or reoccurrence of kidney stones in some individuals.

Water also helps in managing anxiety because hydration has an impact on the brain, as well as the body. Moreover, research has shown that even mild dehydration can have a negative impact on energy levels and mood, which may intensify the symptoms of anxiety.

Conclusion

while other physical factors such as smoking, drinking alcohol, physical fights, or eating junks (as mentioned above), are easily spotted as causes of short lifespan, recent studies have associated more mental attitudes and habits to longevity. So be sure to always analyze and check yourself for negative behaviors and ditch them as soon as you recognize one.
